Urban consultation

SAIACS Consultation on Urban Transformation was held at the CEO Center from February 28 to March 1, 2008. Its purpose was to articulate ministerial and missiological significance of the city for holistic transformation and highlight contemporary strategies and models of urban ministry for creating an awareness about opportunities and challenges so as to stimulate Christian witness in every sphere of urban life. A select group of fifty two urban thinkers, practitioners, trainer, missiologists and pastors as well as students of missions were carefully invited to participate in this consultation The focus was a process by which the whole church takes the whole gospel to the whole city so that the power, peace and presence of God is experienced by every individual who is reconciled to God, to one another and to the environment that brings economic sufficiency, social harmony, public justice and national righteousness. Fourteen papers on strategic urban issues; ranging from transforming urban youth to urban professionals and re-thinking approaches to urban Hindus, Muslims, migrants and urban families were presented. The programme of the consultation was meticulously planned and the three days were packed with the blend of serious academic activity, practical guidelines and innovative ways of doing urban ministry.

Dr. Atul Aghamkar was the Consultation coordinator.

Financial Needs

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS: We are non-denominational / non-sectarian and do not receive denominational funding. We need more support from you in terms of scholarships for students from 1st generation backgrounds who are coming in from the mission field and going back to the mission field. They do not receive funds from home and have no funding from the rural churches, as these churches are quite poor. They are struggling with their fees. It costs us Rs 1,20,000 per student per year of which the college finances 50%. Many find it impossible to pay the balance Rs 60,000/. You can sponsor a student for Rs 60,000 or in part, by cheque payable to SAIACS, Bangalore.

SAIACS needs your investment and involvement. There are many ongoing needs of SAIACS. Here are a few specific needs.

Digital Voice / Image Recording and Archiving for the Library Rs 3,60,000/(Eminent visiting professors who are experts in their fields, deliver lectures at SAIACS. We want to record these lectures for future students and for the church).

Electrical Generator for the Campus Rs 5,60,000/ (Power cuts are frequent and interrupt the servers in the library. Online learning is an important activity at SAIACS and power interruptions not only eat into study time, but also damage computers and servers).

Please contact our Chief Financial Officer Mr. Tej Paul at tej@saiacs.org if you are led by the Spirit to help.
