SAIACS is located in Bangalore, the Garden City of India, almost at the centre of peninsular southern India, and easily reached by road, rail or air. Known for its computer software industry, Bangalore is a major metropolis of over 5 million people. At an altitude of 1000 metres, Bangalore enjoys a mild climate, quite unlike the extreme heat and cold common to many parts of India.

GETTING TO BANGALORE: FLIGHT

The new Bangalore International Airport is about 30 kms away from SAIACS. There are two ways of getting to SAIACS from the airport. One way goes through Bagalur Cross, and the other goes through the Hebbal and the Ring Road. For first-time visitors, we recommend using the Hebbal-Ring Road route.

Getting to SAIACS from the Airport

One can book a pre-paid taxi to SAIACS, by asking for "Kothanur", on the "Hennur-Bagalur Main Road". The fixed rate is about Rs. 900/- (September 2008) and can be booked from inside the airport.

A cheaper option is to leave the airport and book a taxi right outside through the "City Taxi" or "Meru" services. These taxis are quite comfortable and dependable, and the cost to SAIACS should be under Rs. 700/-. The taxi will probably take you through the Hebbal - Ring Road route unless you insist on the Bagalur Cross route. The map included indicates how to get to SAIACS after you are on the Ring Road. From the Airport, you would not have to turn left into SAIACS on the Hennur-Bagalur road.

The Bagalur Cross is about 17 kms from the airport, and you would have to turn left from the airport road. Again, we emphasis, that you must only take this route if you and your driver are sure of where you are going.

GETTING TO BANGALORE: TRAIN

Bangalore is well connected with most parts of India. For more information about which trains connect to Bangalore from your city, see the official railway website http://www.indianrail.gov.in

Getting to SAIACS from the Railway Station

This closest railway station to SAIACS is Bangalore East, but trains do not usually stop there. Therefore the best station to get down from is Bangalore Cantonment, which is about 11 kms from SAIACS. It is best to book a pre-paid auto from the station asking for Kothanur/Gubbi Cross (via Lingarajapuram, and Hennur). Since SAIACS is 5kms beyond city-limits, sometimes the auto-drivers may ask for 1.5 times what is shown on the metre. However a pre-paid auto will cost about Rs. 90 (rate in May 2005).

There is another lesser known station called Yeshwantpur. If there are no pre-paid auto's available, it is advisable to take an auto to Hennur and then change for Kothanur/Gubbi Cross. However, if the auto agrees to go to the edge of city limits, then you can direct the auto driver to go to "Kothanur, on Hennur main road."

Finding your way from Hennur

SAIACS is situated 5 kms outside city limits, which is roughly demarcated by the Outer Ring Road. The closest approach from the City to SAIACS is via Hennur Cross. The areas close to Hennur Cross are Lingarajapuram and Kamnahalli. Once you get to these areas, most people will be able to direct you further to Hennur.

Getting to SAIACS from Hennur is by following the Hennur main road that goes all the way to Bagalur. Once on the Hennur road, you must look out for the village Kothanur and then a fork in the road at Gubbi Cross. (If you miss the turn you will find yourself heading towards Southern Asia Bible College (SABC), which is about 1.5 kms away from SAIACS). At Gubbi Cross you must turn right and follow a curving road (keeping to the left) which will lead you past a temple and finally to SAIACS. This road will eventually lead to Doddagubbi village.
