SAIACS FACULTYSAIACS sees itself as a premier centre of evangelical higher theological learning in South Asia. It brings to its halls some of the finest scholars from all over the world to teach and guide the students in research. Apart from the adjunct and visiting professors, the residential faculty bring in various expertise to strengthen the overall learning experience at SAIACS.
Rev. Dr. Aghamkar is the son of a pastor from the state of Maharashtra,
who has served as urban church planter and pastor with the Christian and
Missionary Alliance since 1977. He was instrumental in planting churches
in Nagpur and Pune cities. He teaches missiology and urban studies and
is developing the Urban Studies programme of SAIACS. Prior to joining
SAIACS faculty, Atul taught Missiology at Union Biblical Seminary in Pune.
He is married to Suman and they have three children, Arpana, Sewa and
Abhishek.
A native of Bangalore, Rev. Dr. Gnanakan worked as an electrician for three years before his theological study. In 1990 he founded Banaswadi Bible Church. He is also known for his radio preaching on TWR. He is married to Dorothy and they have two daughters, Alethea and Charis.
Dr. Bennema comes from the Netherlands, where he worked as a programmer
and system designer at the ING Bank in Amsterdam. In 1992 he went to the
London School of Theology (an associated institution of Brunel University)
in London (UK) to do his BA in Theology. After his MTh he came to India
in 1996 to teach at Allahabad Bible Seminary for 6 months. During his
doctoral studies, he visited India twice more. In 2001 he completed his
PhD at the London School of Theology in New Testament on the role of the
Spirit in salvation in John’s Gospel. His research interests are
John’s Gospel, pneumatology and biblical theology. In 2002 he started
at SAIACS as an Assistant Professor in NT Studies. He is married to Susan,
an Indian national and an alumnus of SAIACS. They have a daughter named
Zoe.
Rev. Dr. Immanuel was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu. After his BD
from Leonard College, Jabalpur, he served as a Lecturer at South India
Biblical Seminary. After earning his PhD in New Testament from King's
College London for his literary critical study on the relationship between
the supernatural phenomena and the discourses in the Book of Acts, he
served in TAFTEE as a Senior Academic Staff. He joined SAIACS Faculty
in April 2005 as an Assistant Professor of New Testament. His research
interests are Luke-Acts and Hermeneutics. His doctoral work has been published
as a Monograph by HIM International Ministries, Inc (Perth, Australia)
in 2004. He and his wife Usha have a daughter, Aparajitha.
Following her Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Dr. Dharamraj taught Chemistry at the Plus Two level in various Bangalore schools before switching to theological studies. She is married to Dharamraj and they have two children, Jerusha and Paul.
After completing his BA (Hons) in English from St. Stephens College, New Delhi, Nigel worked in Filmfare Magazine, Mumbai, for three years. He then did his MA in Christianity from SAIACS and went on to teach Journalism and Religious Education at Woodstock School, Mussoorie. He is currently enrolled in the SAIACS PhD degree programme in Theology. He is married to Selena. FACULTY ON STUDY LEAVE He is married to Amita and they have two children, Jemima and Joshua. Reuben is pursuing his doctoral studies in Missiology at the Oxford Center for Mission Studies through the University of Wales, UK in collaboration with SAIACS.
A structural engineer by training, Arun served with Indian Evangelical Mission as a missionary for nine years and presently is in training as SAIACS faculty. Married to Sonia, he is working towards a doctorate in religion and anthropology at the University of Leeds, UK.
Born and brought up in the city of Mysore, together with her husband, Arun Kumar, they have served with the Indian Evangelical Mission as staff of Outreach Training Institute, Bagalur. They continue as Honorary Associates of IEM. They joined SAIACS’ faculty in 1997. Sonia has completed her post-graduate programme through the University of Aberdeen, U.K. FACULTY ON SABBATICAL LEAVE
After three years of pastoral ministry in Mizoram, Rev. Dr. Hrangkhuma
taught at UBS for 20 years, 4 years at the Serampore College, Serampore,
and served for three years as the General Secretary of the Baptist Church
of Mizoram. He was instrumental in the founding of the Centre for Mission
Studies at UBS with its two-degree programs – MDiv in Mission and
MTh (Missiology), and started an MTh (Missiology) at Serampore College.
He is a founding member of the Fellowship of Indian Missiologists, and
its Vice President for several years. He has authored and edited several
books including Introduction to Church History (TBT) and Christianity
in India: Search for Liberation and Identity (ISPCK). He is married to
Kimi and they have four daughters. He teaches Missiology and History,
and is developing Tribal Studies at SAIACS.
