LIBRARY
The SAIACS library is so designed that its spacious, well-lit
interiors make it a pleasure to work and study in. Begun as a humble collection
of 200 books in 1982, the library now houses over 35,000 books and a range
of journals from India and overseas. It also has a collection of electronic
books, journals, dictionaries and other reference works on CD-ROMS, besides
documents on microfilm and microfiches. The archives section contains
the printed dissertations, and theses of students, and faculty and some
old and rare books.
SAIACS offers students the opportunity to specialize in
one of a number of theological disciplines. The SAIACS library
has a strong base in missions studies, besides ample resources are available
in the Biblical Studies, Christian Theology and Pastoral Theology and
Counseling and Religions.
The library receives issues of about 150 national and international scholarly
and popular journals and periodicals every year and back issues are held. We
also provide access to 100 plus electronic journals available on the web.
Annually in an average 1000-1500 books are added to the library. In order
to face the challenges of the information needs of the users, in addition
to print materials, the library has procured non-print materials, which
includes 150 Microfilms, 400 Microfiches and 100 plus CDROM online databases.
The library is computerized using SLIM++ library software and library
catalogue is available in online (OPAC-Online Public Access Catalogue).
To further facilitate students, especially those doing
research, the SAIACS library is a member of the Joint Library Committee,
a consortium of 20 theological libraries in Bangalore. Through this network,
students may avail of inter-library loans.
Thinking about future challenges, we are in the process of setting up
of a Digital Library Centre, to offer online access to the full text scholarly
information for the researchers over the network with necessary licensing
agreements. Under this project we are creating a digital library, perhaps
first of its own kind in Indian theological institutions. The SAIACS library
seeks to provide the information needs of the students, faculty and researchers
in theological education. SAIACS library is member of Joint Library Committee,
to enhance the users' access to other library resources in and around
Bangalore.
